Repeat prescriptions are medicines which appear on your prescription slip. These are medicines which the doctor would like you to continue on a regular basis. Your list can also be found in your online account if you have one.

Repeat prescriptions take at least 4 days to be processed. Please order before you run out of medicine.

  • In person: Leave the repeat prescription list in the prescription box at the surgery. Make sure you tick the medicines you need.
  • By post: Please provide a self-addressed envelope with a stamp. Allow up to one week to get the prescription back.
  • At your pharmacy: Ask your pharmacy to order a repeat prescription for you.

Collecting your prescription

All prescriptions will be sent to your nominated pharmacy. If you do not have one nominated, it will be automatically sent to the SPINE and you can collect it from any pharmacy near you.

If you have a nominated pharmacy, it can take up to 4 working days for the pharmacy to prepare your prescription. If you need your medicines urgently, please contact your nominated pharmacy.

For some medications, the prescription must be printed off and taken to the pharmacy in person. You will always be notified if this is the case for your prescription.

Find a pharmacy

The NHS 'find a service' tool can find the nearest pharmacy to any postcode. Give it a try:

Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)

We encourage patients to sign up for and use the EPS. This service allows us to send your prescribed medications to your pharmacy electronically. This means you don't have to come to the surgery to pick up your prescription form.

Medication queries

If you have any questions or concerns about your medication, please contact us to let us know.

Questions or concerns may include:

  • Your medication has not arrived at your pharmacy.
  • Your medication is causing unwanted side effects
  • you are having trouble opening or swallowing your medication

Remember your pharmacist can help you with many common medication queries.

Medication reviews

Your GP needs to know of any changes in your health that may affect your medication. Regular medication reviews are required at least once a year. Some reviews may need blood tests to be done before the review with you.

Please make a note of your review date on your repeat prescription form. You will need to make an appointment to see someone to review your medication. Prescriptions for further medication will not be issued without this review.

Pre Payment Certificates

You may find it cheaper to buy a Pre Payment Certificate (PPC) if:

  • You have to pay for 4 or more prescription items in 3 months.
  • You have to pay for more than 14 prescription items in a year.

you can order a PPC via the advice and order line 0845 850 0030. You can also buy or renew a PPC online

Help with prescription costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions
  • More information is available at NHS Choices
